I have been painting in pastel for over 20 years; I discovered the medium after I completed a university degree, and never learned anything about it. I was attracted to the medium right away, as I did not have to wait for my painting to dry. For me, it satisfies my urge to draw as well as my urge to paint. I am a realist painter...whenever I make an attempt to try something different, I end up unhappy with the end result.
I have been represented by many Canadian galleries through B.C. and Alberta. I have taught workshops and private lessons in pastel. I have been the Feature artist for Canada in an international magazine on 2 occasions. I am also a Signatory member of the Northwest Pastel Society in Seattle, Washington.
My paintings can take as much as 400 hours to complete, so there isn't any time to waste! Whether it is a sunset, a flower or a lonely beach, I paint whatever subject I am feeling passionate about at the particular moment. I have accepted some commissions, with many satisfied collectors. Most often, however, my paintings have sold through the many galleries who have represented me in Western Canada. I have many limited edition prints, and look forward to having more images available in print through MyArtChannel.
I studied art throughout my life, always striving for more knowledge. After high school I spent 6 months in London, England, where I attended an art college. Upon my return to Canada, I studied Visual Art at the University of Victoria.
When I moved to the Fraser Valley I met an exceptional teacher, who introduced me to the medium of pastel, and I studied with her for about 4 years. After I joined the Northwest Pastel Society in Seattle, I learned that there were other techniques I could use to achieve the results I was after, so I learned about them and developed them on my own (such as underpaintings and the use of various sandpapers).
